Career

Graduated in Natural Sciences specializing in Chemistry at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule (ETH) in Zurich, Switzerland. Doctorate in Organic Chemistry from the ETH Zurich. Post-doctorate at Stanford University, USA, in the field of organometallic chemistry (research grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation). Practising in the field of intellectual property rights since 2000. With Abitz & Partner since 2006

Specialisation

Examination, opposition and appeal proceedings before the European and German Patent Offices and the Federal Patent Court; legal opinions on patent infringement and validity questions. Many cases in SPC matters including paediatric extensions of SPCs. Involved in decision C-125/10 (Merck Sharp & Dohme) before the European Court of Justice on "negative" term SPCs. Particular expertise in polymer chemistry, refrigerants, catalysts and pharmaceuticals
